Make Everyone’s Holiday Jolly with a Mock Crest Tavern Gift Card

Mock_Crest_Tavern LogoThere’s only a few days left before Christmas and I’m well on my way to crossing off every item on my holiday gift list. Of course, there’s always a couple that are harder to buy for—the one who “already has everything they could possibly want” or the hard to buy for picky characters—and stocking stuffers, stocking stuffers, stocking stuffers!

When I’m looking for the perfect gift that everyone will love, I like to give them the gift of “Good Food, Good Music, and Good Times” at Mock Crest Tavern, North Portland’s favorite music venue, and this year when you give them a gift certificate of $25 or more we’ll give you one for $5, because we love giving gifts, too!

Mock Crest Music

Treat your friends and family to a night out listening to great bands performing live in our intimate setting. We regularly features the top local Blue artists from the Cascade Blues Association, like Suburban Slim and Tracey Fordice and the 8 Balls, pop and rock artists, like the Adequates, and guest bands from all around the world.

For those who love to just sit back and have beer in a nice and easy setting, gift your Christmas pal to a gift certificate so they try out a few of Portland’s best craft beers, top shelf liqueurs, ciders and wines.

Who doesn’t love good pub grub? Nobody, that’s who. The receiver of a Mock Crest Gift Card won’t be getting just one present, but an entire menu filled of great choices like Sriracha Chicken Nuggets, Mock’s Monster Burger, or a Veggie Wrap. We also serve breakfast until noon on weekdays and 2pm on weekends.

This year give a gift that keeps on giving; a gift card from Mock Crest Tavern, and you’ll receive one, too!

A Morning Spent at Mock Crest Tavern

Sometimes, when I find myself in a rut, the best thing to do is to get out of my normal life and find a place where I can relax. Fortunately, with the invention of free WiFi, I’ve found the perfect solution—breakfast at Mock Crest Tavern!

I had just such a morning today so I drove over to North Portland’s favorite neighborhood bar to check out their specials and relax with a Bloody Mary. It’s the very best work-life combination I can think of!

Manager Sarah Grace is working this morning, managing the job of cooking, bartending, checking in a supply delivery, and training a new employee all at the same time. She juggled this with the ease of a seasoned pro while filling all the customer’s requests and engaging them with the banter you’d expect from a friendly bartender.

Mock - Jon .jpg

Mock’s co-owner, Jon Batcheller, was working today, too, fixing a troublesome door and checking in on the general running of the bar. He spared a few minutes to sit down with me while he enjoyed a breakfast of eggs and pancakes before heading out to a repair shop to find a missing part for the door. Always something to do at a busy bar like Mock…

The patio outside was busy with a few guests who were enjoying the beautiful fall day. They were chowing down on eggs and toast, while I decided to go with their breakfast special of the day, a White Cheddar Mock Muffin. It’s an English muffin with sausage, egg, and white cheddar cheese and a side of country style potatoes. Yum, yum! I paired that with a spicy Bloody Mary and later a Madras. It was the perfect way to break out of my end-of-summer rut.

Every Sunday Mock Crest Tavern welcomes Quizzy Trivia, a bar trivia game with off-the-wall host, Roy Smallwood. He comes armed with categories that we think we know well, and questions that will prove we don’t. But this team game is all for fun—and a few prizes.

If a game of cards is more your speed join us on Monday evenings for our weekly Texas Hold ‘em games. It’s the kind of game that’s been played in our bar ever since the doors opened, and the tradition continues with laid back games and plenty of beer.

Join the Mock Crest Tavern “Club”

In a culinary culture that is always trying to outdo itself its nice to know you can return to the tried and true classic when you tire of the competitive spirit. That was my mood when I joined the crowd at Mock crest Tavern last Friday and dug into one of their Club Sandwiches.

2016-07-22 13.10.29

Constructed as a triple-decker stack of meat, cheese, and veggies, this sandwich encapsulates all the great ingredients of traditional sandwiches. Savory ham, roast turkey and the crispy crunch of bacon, cheddar and lettuce and tomato on three slices of sourdough bread. With its fresh ingredients, Mock Crest Tavern has initiated me into the Club Sandwich fan club!

I ordered a side of beer-battered onion rings that were juicy and sweet and a glass of Rev. Nat’s Sour Cherry cider to wash it all down. I’ve become a big fan of ciders over the last year and find their mild, fruity taste a great compliment to the saltiness of the sandwich and sides served at Mock.

Mock Crest Tavern’s menu has many great cold sandwiches to choose from on these hot summer days and each is based on a classic, and their rotating drafts feature tasty selections of beer and cider. Check out their menu to see all the great combinations you can order next time you stop in at North Portland’s favorite “dive” bar.

Mock Crest Tavern and the Cascade Blues Association

For nearly seventy years Mock Crest Tavern’s reputation as one of the Rose City’s best intimate music venues has drawn great acts from around world, but it’s our relationship with the musicians of the Cascade Blues Association (CBA) that has helped us earn the reputation as Portland’s best bar to listen to the blues.

Mock Crest Sign1

The CBA is a local non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of blues and roots music in the Pacific Northwest. Its members are recognized around the world as top musicians and often perform alongside other acclaimed acts at music concerts and festivals that draw thousands of fans.

I love my nights out at Mock listening to bands like Suburban Slim and Tracey Fordice and the 8 Balls, both winners of the association’s Muddy Award for their great performances. They play regularly at the bar and never disappoint with covers of their take on the classics mixed with their own tunes. And, each time they play you’ll find a bar full of their fans singing the blues right along with them.

Tracey Fordice1

If you want to hear great live music in North Portland just to head on down Lombard Street and look for the Mock Crest Tavern’s “Portland Bluesman” mural on the east side of our building. The joint will be rockin’ and you can bet you’ll soon be happily singing the blues with these great bands. Check our schedule to see who’s playing this week.
